Abstract

The to evaluate the effect of organic, bio, and chemical fertilizers on the vegetative growth characteristics of fig (ficus carica l.) Seedlings, cv. Bani muslam this study was conducted at the agriculture technique college/ northern technical university, during the spring 2025, using a factorial experiment in a randomized complete block design (rcbd). The treatments involved irrigating the seedlings with three types of fertilizers:

- chemical fertilizer (npk 20:20:20) at a concentration of 10 ml·l⁻¹

- organic fertilizer (shamal) at a concentration of 5ml. L-1 (recommended: 4-5 ml.l-1).

- biofertilizer (trichoderma bacteria).

 - irrigation only with water (control).

Results showed that organic fertilizer produced the highest seedlings height (95.6 cm), followed by biofertilizer (92.6 cm), and the highest branches number (12 branches/seedling). The longest new shoot lengths (14 cm) were recorded in the chemical fertilizer treatment, which did not differ significantly from those in the biofertilizer treatment (12.4 cm). As for stems diameter, no significant differences among fertilizers treatments were observed (1.54, 1.62, and 1.60 cm for each of organic, chemical, and biofertilizers, respectively). As well as, the leaves number showed close values (29.0, 28.4, and 29.2 leaf/seedling), but all are significantly higher than value that recorded in control treatment (17.0 leaf/seedling). According to this founding, eco- friendly fertilizers such as organic and biofertilizers can be considered as sustainable alternatives to chemicals fertilizers for enhancing plant growth and well supporting sustainability concept.
