Abstract

The study aims to measure the impact of climate change in light of current challenges. Understanding the relationship between climate variables and wheat production is essential for developing sustainable agricultural strategies. Climatic conditions play a significant role in maintaining soil, natural vegetation, and plant cover. These climate changes also impact agricultural production across various crops, particularly wheat, which is the focus of the study for the period 2003-2023. Climate change represents a clear threat to food security in Iraq due to water scarcity, global warming, and the scarcity of resources necessary to achieve sustainable balance in the agricultural sector. Obstacles and challenges are leading to a decline in the production of strategic crops, such as wheat. A number of conclusions were reached, the most important of which was the decline in agricultural production in Iraq due to water shortages, the drying up of tributary rivers, the expansion of decertified areas, and high levels of salinity, which have had negative effects on wheat agricultural output. The study recommended developing a number of clear strategies and mechanisms for adapting to climate change and giving a greater role to agricultural technology in confronting climate change, Climate change and the development of new high-yielding wheat varieties to withstand environmental and climatic conditions.
