The current research focused on the numerical taxonomy of three species of the genus Phaseolus L. and included P. vulgaris (cultivars: BRS. Executive, Strick, Gii-867, Brino, Dellaregina), P. lanatus L. (cultivars: Brs-pitanjo, Scarletrunner Bean, Tabasco, Lima beans), and P.coccineus L. (cultivars: Siscresiatain Paleta, Massorn, Frasca). Fifty of their characters were studied including morphological, anatomical, and pollen grains character. Computational methods using IBM SPSS Statistics have been used in the present study to find relationships and differences among these species and cultivars of the genus Phaseolus using hierarchical cluster analysis with average linkage between groups.
The UPGMA dendrogram analysis revealed a clear separation of the studied Operational Taxonomic Units into two main clusters with similarity values ranging from 3.7 to 99.2, based on the rescaled reversed absolute correlation between vectors of values. The observed variations among the studied cultivars may be associated with genetic or environmental influences. This underscores the critical importance of numerical studies, as they facilitate the effective segregation of plants at both the species and cultivar levels.
